The 2014 CFG Gatineau Games are Open!

Gatineau, July 23 2014 – The 6th Canadian Francophone Games (CFG) organizing committee is extremely proud to finally announce that the 2014 Canadian Francophone Games in Gatineau opened a few hours before the start of the competitions. In the presence of the vice-president of the Federation of French-Canadian Youth Eric Gignac, the mayor of Gatineau, Mr. Maxime Pedneaud-Jobin, the MNA for Chapleau, Marc Carrière, president of CFG 2014 Gatineau, Benoît Pelletier, the organizing committee has welcomed the participants, coaches, families and visitors who arrived in the area on Tuesday.

The organizing committee has prepared this celebration of Francophones with the support of over 1,000 volunteers, 20 permanent employees, 40 committees and 75 financial partners. « For three years, we carefully prepare the arrival of young people from across Canada, so we are excited, and you can see the frenzy that drives us. During the last few weeks, Gatineau buzzed to the rhythm of the games and finally, the party can begin! » declared Mr. Benoît Pelletier at the press conference. In addition, CO Games’ President is delighted with the unexpected financial contribution amassed by all the regional deputies. « This amount totaling $55,000 comes timely with the launch of the games. This is a significant contribution that will certainly contribute to the success of the Games, » said Benoît Pelletier.

The Vice-President of the FCFG added: « A few hours before the opening ceremony, two years of planning by the organizing committee finally sees the outcome of their effort. The history of the Canadian Francophone Games is enriched with a new edition that reserves surprises and thrills in Gatineau. » 

« It is with great pride that Gatineau welcomes the francophone from across the country for an event of this magnitude. As a border town, Gatineau and all of Outaouais region particularly understand the reality of the francophone. I want these Canadian Francophone Games to be an opportunity to get closer and to demonstrate the importance of Francophone culture in the country, » says the mayor of Gatineau.

The Games begin tonight with the opening ceremony on the site of the Place de la Cité. Under the theme « United from one accent to another« , sound, visual and sensory performances will be offered to the public, all in the Gatineau flavor. The artistic direction of the show is provided by Yves Marchand and François Dubé will be the musical director.

The 6th Canadian Francophone Games will be held from 23 to 27 July 2014, while 1,000 participants from all provinces and territories will compete on three aspects of competition: Sports, Arts and Leadership. To hold these Games, the organizing committee will rely on the contribution of more than 1,000 volunteers.
